In general useage, I really don't see any differance between the two, but in my distributed computing effort, my Athalon 1800+ kicks my P4 2.2 Ghz's butt!

"yeah imma make the switch to AMD" have happy day! Yup i did, and I'm gunna, but for intel is very powerful now since they introdiced their 800mhz bud speeds, and use that with dual channel DDR and you got a rockin system, but yes your right, the money/performance ratio is in AMD's favour, but price is no object for those who want the best of the best ;D

Intels a lil scared about the opteron cause everyones buying those CPUs for "supercomputers" cause everyone was waiting for the benchamrks for the CPU to be official no wonder intel redesigned the XEON for 1mb L3 cache

AMD is the superior, to intel, as far as what its giving, but unluckily, the big people, are on intels side, so most of the marketis given to intel. I love amd in the desktop market, but the intel Pentium M's are king of the mobles

A good mobile CPU is the Centrino if anything. You know why? Because they use the least power and do well.

Whats this Centrino CPU all about? Heard it was a cooler running CPU and good for conserving power. Is it a completely new design for Intel or is it just an improvment on older designs? Will it ever be a option for the desktop build?

the Centrino is a type of chipset for the MOBILE note the "M" but the CPU is another thing thats like what you said "Pentium 4-M" there's no connection to the centrino and a CPU centrino is for the wireless networking and less power conservation Ect. its just a NEW chipset for mobile or Notebooks

Mad TwEaKist ..thanks. You can see why I have been confused. This is not the first time I have seen the Centrino referred to in that manner. Confused to why thats the case.

Centrino is a complete package for notebooks or laptops or whatever you want to call them. They do more with less power (electricity) and are good for WiFi.
Do not expect to see them available for any desktop systems becuase they are strictly notebook CPUs.
However, they are no near as powerful as any desktop processor could be.

i thought i made my self clear.... i guess not Hey now there buddy!! Yes you did. I was referring to the fact that I have seen the Centrino referred to as a CPU. For example...please take no offense AMD. I'm repeating what has been said here, but here is the deal from Intel...

And now I am confused as to why everything is becoming confusing. Confusion is not a good thing and when the confused confuse the unconfused, then the confusion grows and creates greater confusion... Tweakist's answer is more correct than mine. Much more correct.

Hey, this did become an all out war. AMD is not included in this though. I'd like to call this war IWI, Intel war1. There is nothing to be confused about, except confusion itself.
