Hey people, I have a friend who um kicked his standing external hard drive accidentallly and it died. My friend was wondering if the warranty of the drive (a Western Digital 80 gigger) would be able to replace the drive.

Tell him to pull the drive (if he is sure there is no warranty for the entire external package) and check the warranty status using the drives serial # here: websupport.wdc.com/warranty/serialinput.asp?custtype=end&requesttype=warranty&lang=enMany WDs have a three year warranty. Although the drive MAY have a special serial and markings if it was sold with the external cover thus being covered under a different warranty policy... probably not though. Dont specify the cause of death! Say it quit spinning up and cant be tested with Data Lifeguard.

So I (I mean my friend) can just call up WD and tell em that the drive just stopped working and their troubleshooting software doesn't work? Spectacular ;D
Yeah, umm, my friend bought the drive separately with an external enclosure.
BTW, I (Ahem, my friend) got the HDD in September so theres a bit over 2.5 years left in the warranty

If ya bought it from Newegg, just RMA it back to Newegg.
