Well, I'd hafta say, and most would probably agree, that the Creative Sound Blaster AWE64 would be, it still holds its' own on todays games, it'll be the best you can get for an ISa slot, because it also has an old preEAX features, it called 3D Enviromental sound, so think of it as EAX 0.5, so in general for games and such that's that'll be the best sounding card for music and games,

Thanks guys. I have a AWE32 thats giving me troubles all of a sudden. Wasnt sure if that was the best made for ISA...cool so I can step up to an AWE64! Wasnt sure. I need to replace the 32 soon and I'd rather not waste a pci slot just for sound, yet I do use it for production (flash, vid and voice recording), so I figure I should step up if I can. again..thanks

You should easily be able to pick one up for like $5-$20 jees back in the day when it was Creatives top dog, it costed like $150, in my opinion it was creatives only good card,

I read about those tubes too and was wondering how they work...I still really don't understand the point. Maybe it's just one of those things...useless but attractive to many.

Ask any audiophile and they will tell you that the sound that comes from even a high end PC sounds like crap. I have meet a few people that still wont buy solid state amps and even avoid digital music all together. If you can live with some pop n'scratch...nothing comes close to vinyl! (so it has been said.. ) High priced, limated production tube AMPs for home stereos are still being not only produced but constantly improved. I think alot of stuff in the future will be based on old technology enhanced with new ideas and materials. Yea! And just imagine how COOL it would look with the neon and led fans and stuff! ;D

I think turtle beach is great for sound reproduction and such, but if you want it just for gaming I would spend ha;f the cahs an get say a Fortissimo, or sound blaster 512 or Live!, If you where to spare no costs, I'd dsay go dfor the Audigy 2 platinum Ex, (even thoguh I'm not really a sound blaster fan (aka Creative)) it contains all the necassary features dfor sound reproduction and gaming and dvd playback, If you want to go full out But if you want top notch recording go with the "M-AUDIO Delta 1010" will cost you roughly $400cnd or $500american, but it's not for the person whp has a tight wallet, but great if you your say, editing aufdio in homemade/professional, dvd/movies and creatinghigh quality MP3's ;D

Remember that analogous sound, those produced by vinyl and actual live sound is complete. Digital only take the most noticeable, ( the highest and lowest points of the sound and imitates them. So anywhere in the middle is usually lost in digitization.

...and the word they use for that is..."warmth" ..guess it makes sense. The reason I bring this stuff up is..I'm sick of hearing about creative products...not to say they aren't good products, I'm just more interested in whats getting run over by the bandwagen. If you catch my drift.

Sorry to dig up an old post, but tell us more about hurcules sound cards. Whats hot now. Also, what was available way back in the ISA days? Thanks Hercules sound cards are great, combatabilty is great, and tech support is aweosme. Baically sound feature wise like on the Fortissimo 2, are similar to the Live! card, but the fortissimo 2 offers Optical inputs an outputs, along with more sounds per channel then the Live! makin the Fortissimo 2 a 20-bit card compared to the live only being 18-bit. Hercules has served me well, and continues to do so, I can't wait till Hercules adopts the Audigy series of features, o well, it all a matter of opinion, the top dog for Hercules at the monet is their Game Theatre XP 7.1 and DigiFire which offers 3 Firewire ports (2 external, and 1 internal) Hercules is the best bang for your buck. ;D As for ISA, back in the day you Soundblaster Pro/16/Vibra16/Awe32/Awe64/Awe64 Gold, ATI Stereo FX, Crystal Sound Cards where very big in the ISA days, and Aureal and Turtle beach had a small share in the ISA days.

To save you all from a headache... ....why not simply just buy an Audigy2...Trust me it works well. A friend of mine has the card and has managed to get surround sound all around the house...His PC is upstairs and visitors all always wondering why they are hearign music when there is no stereo present and then he shows them his setup and it is pretty sweeeeeet!
