Got some things to say here.
First of all thanks for the compliments. Much appreciated.
Now for the more brutal sounding stuff. Disclaimer: I do not mean to sound like I think I know jack, but I'm confident with my opinion on this.
Its a long post, so you may want to fetch yourself a soda with ice and get comfy before starting. And also, as with all my posts, please forgive the rotten grammer and misspelled words...unfortunatly I was looking out the window too much instead of paying attention in school!
;D
Ok...lets do the math. There are 18 members with a total post count of 495. First, lets eliminate AMDs posts because its his forum, and of course he is going to have the most posts. He had to start topics, test the forum and respond to all other posts or else no one would have. So that takes the post count to 316. Now, allow me to subtract my posts, since my posts are mostly bull anyway... which brings the count to 231.
This little math quiz begs the question... Moderate who? Together TwEaKist and SkitZy, you have posted 130 times. That brings us to only 101 posts from other members (mods included)! as far as I can see, the only people you would be moderating are pretty much yourselves!
Whats the fun in that?...whats the purpose? Think about it. Don't get me wrong...I do think its cool that you are both really into being mods. Its just this "place" is like a clubhouse at the moment. What happens at the first meeting at the clubhouse? Usually the members divy up fantasy positions...like Pres, Vice Pres, secretary, treasurer, etc.. and once these positions are assigned theres usually one or two members left to "rule". They end up getting the job of fetching the kool-aid.
Now, as far as whos actually qualified to be a mod at a tech site. The question has been asked regarding the few posters that are here. My answer was ..how the f*** would I know?...infact how the heck COULD I know? From what I have read posted here, so far MOST of what I see are but opinions about whats the best this and whats the best that, without any substantial, scientifically explained reasons for the opinions. I can go to any of the 1000s of sites available online and read that garbage. Its all over the place! If I were to want to read about the opposing opinions regarding technical choices...be honest now...do you really think this would be the place to go? I do not think so, considering the amount of expertise thats available online. Could this site get to that status where people can come and get expert advice and real-life experience about this stuff...possibly, but it will take a lot of work and a collaborative effort to show what level of expertise is available here.
One example you might try: Build some systems together, with well written technical posts about the project and pics demonstrating how its done. ..again, thats just an example.
I'm sure you get the idea here.
Now..whew..
As for the statements about the current mods not doing there jobs as moderators should... well, if you dont already have a good idea what I'm going to say, then start at the top of this post and reread!
Mods arent here to rack up posts! Members are! Mods are here to make sure all is fair and cool and to help out with the questions that are not answered by other members. Mods are also here to get the answers to pressing questions that are important and cannot wait until another member comes along with the answer. So far, I only see.. maybe a couple of times(if that) where a mod was actually needed! Posting some general chit-chat so that viewers know of their presence can be nice, but its really not the job of a mod. And at some forums it would be concidered bullsh!t. I'm one of those that do post to be socialable and have been rheemed for doing so.
Now on the subject of me. I came here because of a request from AMD who was/is a moderator of a site that I do frequently post at (very frequently..infact when it comes to sitting down at the puter...I consider it "home") I was quickly volunteered to be a mod here under the impression that the site was a learning experience for its creator, thus, I figured I should try it out and milk some experience from it and possibly learn about how a forum is built and cultured. Thats all cool and I do take it, for what its worth, seriously. AMD, please take no offense when I say this, but the key phrase here is "for what its worth".
I'm sure you understand what I'm saying. If you suddenly needed to free up another mod position so to promote one of these guys (or anybody else), to be honest with you..I wouldnt care one way or the other. Not because of you, or the site itself, but ...well, if you need to hear why, then start from the top of this post and read agian.
The admin thing... I would, as I was when you asked me to mod, be honored, but If you asked me right now or in the forseen future, I would have to decline. Again, for the same reasons above. You need another admin like you need another hole in your head!
hot air summery... Its better to be part of something when your actually needed than it is to be part of something just to be part of something. ...unless your getting paid that is! ;D ;D ;D ;D
